Support for Homeless Dogs in Russia

Vagrant dogs can pose quite a bit of a problem; you see them everywhere all the time, they normally move around, lie on the streets, and stick close together for warmth in winter. But, the amazing thing of all is that in Russia, these sorry animals can even take the metro or the bus by themselves. When I saw that, I got really spooked; I mean, it is usual to see them eat whatever food they can find from the garbage cans and often have sorry bodies, but travel in human transportations by themselves?

At the moment, I have not heard of vicious attacks by dogs or dogs biting people indiscriminately in the streets but I am starting to really pity these poor hapless creatures; they are left to fend for themselves in the punishing frost and the people around them seem indifferent, almost cruel.

The dogs have become almost invisible in this big city, and yet the government has already put a strategy in place to sterilize these animals. But, the process will take time and there are very few citizens available to help with the program. This no shocker because after all, less developed countries have less regulations to ease the coexistence of man and animals, unlike in more developed countries, where the animals can be treated fairly and with compassion.
